Black Chronicle

Black Chronicle

This is one of my favorite black history books!  Black Chronicle is a compilation of black newspapers published from the late 1700s until 1956, reporting on the news of that era.  It includes some black history facts we know and includes many that are lesser-known.  Did you know General George Washington excluded then rescinded the order to include blacks to fight the redcoats?  Did you know that, in response to the passing of The Fugitive Slave Bill, Canada advertised that those fugitive slaves desiring to be free were welcome there? Did you know blacks got the opportunity to live in Harlem, NY because of white flight from the area?  A good book for history buffs, Black Chronicle reminds us that learning about our history shouldn't be limited to one month.
