The businessmen pictured on the poster represent the Greenwood District of Tulsa, Oklahoma. The area is known as The Black Wall Street because of the entrepreneurial successes of black men and women in this community. But in 1921, the accusation by a white woman that a black man attempted to rape her led to the massacre of blacks and the destruction of their businesses and homes in their community in Greenwood. Nearly a century later Greenwood is rebuilt and is a thriving community again. This poster is a reminder of the resilient spirit that lies within all of us.
